Why I am here

For the same reason I invest in serial storytelling, whether in books, tv, movies or social media.

The constant stream of new posts means i always have to catch up or find out what happens next.

It gives me an excuse to have a tomorrow.

Marriage Meme

I was married for almost 15 years. The whole story is too long for typing out on a phone but I’d like to tell it some time.

I doubt I ever will be married again. Sorry, you’ll have to wait for the story to find out why.

Rx? F U

I have two prescription eye drops I have to use every day or my ocular pressure increases to the point where permanent nerve damage occurs and I lose my field of vision. Pretty important stuff, right?

These eye drops come in tiny bottles of .5 milliliters (together about 1/4 teaspoon) that last an average of five weeks. Since I am currently uninsured, the out of pocket cost for both totals $211.

Still with me? Let’s do a little exercise.

One gallon equals 3,785.41 ml. That would be 7,571 tiny bottles of eyedrops.

For comparison, the current one gallon price of 85 octane gasoline locally is about $3.25.

One gallon of my eyedrops, at this moment in time, would cost $798,721.51

Sure, it would take me 364 years to use it all, but still…

The lesson: When it comes to raiding your wallet, pharmaceutical companies make oil companies look like amateurs.

Bottle it up

Today is the first day I’ve felt happy in as long as I can remember.

And I have no idea why. Nothing in my life has changed whatsoever but my mood was/is different enough that my daughter commented on it.

I’m upset that her default experience of me is depression and a smile is a welcome change.

I don’t expect this happiness to last very long though. I wish I knew how to bottle it because I have no reserves.

But, for now, I’m soaking up my kids’ laughter and smiles.

I had these. The original 12 Star Wars Action figures. I got them one Easter. I loved them and played with them all the time. Eventually I had lots of stormtroopers, but by the time Return of Jedi came out, I had moved on to other things.
I think my mom ended up giving those away, they sell for a fortune now.
Related fact: FormerPolice had a ton of Star Wars action figures, the original ones. He sold them to pay for our honeymoon. A fact he reminds me of often.

My neighbor had these (HAS these) and omfg how I have wanted them all my life. I used to go over and sit I’n his bedroom reading books and gazing wistfully at his original star wars figurines.

I still have all the original figures my brother and I played with as kids. I still have several playsets and vehicles too. Maybe if you guy’s are really good I’ll share some pics.

Favorite(ish) tweet

I can’t pull up old favstar pages to find one of my favorites so I’ll try to recreate it as best as I can.

On the DVD of my life the commentary will just be my parents shifting uncomfortably in their seats and sighing.”

Maybe one of you favstar wizards can locate it.

8 Things I’ve Done That Other Tumblrs Probably Haven’t

1. Bungee jumped out of a hot air balloon.

2. Spent 10 years as a full time stay at home dad. The only reason I include this is due to the longevity of it and how close a relationship I have with my kids because of it.

3. Evaded a police car by accident.

4. Came thisclose to going to the hospital for alcohol poisoning on my 21st birthday. Actually, that was probably a fairly common occurrence among you so ignore this post.

5. Came under suspicion of being AWOL from the Navy as I crossed back into the US from Tijuana on that same birthday. (I was never in the service) ((best birthday ever))

6. Snowboarded Aspen Mountain the first day us knuckledraggers were allowed to sully the playground of the wealthy.

7. Made an executive decision to end my list at seven.
